Hey Arnold, Episode 14: Arnold’s Thanksgiving

Frustrated and embarrassed by their family’s way of celebrating Thanksgiving, Helga and Arnold set out to Mr. Simmons’ house in hopes of finding a “normal” Thanksgiving celebration. In the end, Helga and Arnold accept that while their Thanksgiving traditions seem strange, their families’ love for one another is precious and beautiful. Rugrats, Episode 13: The Turkey who Came to Dinner

Do you recall the movie Finding Nemo? Do you remember the sharks’ motto? Well, according to the Rugrats same lesson applies: turkeys are friends, not food! However, in this case if your new friend is about to become this year’s Thanksgiving dinner, a baby’s gotta do what a baby’s gotta do: stand your ground and protect your pal from being gobbled up. Line up and get your game faces on, though you may have a hard time competing with Lil’s precious puppy-eyed face and Phil’s eye-of-the-tiger stare. It is no wonder they’re able to convince Stu and the rest of the grownups to not eat their turkey buddy. Nice job, babies!

Create your own family traditions.

Rugrats, Episode 13: The Turkey who Came to Dinner

Why attend the Macy’s Day Parade when you can make your own Thanksgiving Parade? All you need is a live turkey, a dog, some rope, friends, snacks, and balloons and you’ve got yourself a party. Ok, maybe the babies’ vision is a bit unconventional, but you’ve got to hand it to them; they’re very creative. Tommy, Phil, Lil, Chuckie, Angelica, and the rest of the Rugrats are always up for fun and adventure, and you should be too! Try something new: See the world, take a vacation, or volunteer your time at a homeless shelter! (See this article for some more out-of-the-ordinary Thanksgiving Day ideas.)

Accept others for who they are, now for what they have.

Boy Meets World, Episode 10: Turkey Day

Fa-fa-fa-feeny isn’t the only one to impart valuable lessons in this classic 90’s TV series. The dynamic duo, Shawn Hunter and Corey Matthews, show us the true meaning of friendship, acceptance, and gratitude in this heartfelt and comical Thanksgiving-themed episode. Although they each come from very different backgrounds, they do not let their differences come between their friendship. Instead, they establish a respect for each other and ultimately prove to their parents that material possessions do not define us; our character does. Always remember to appreciate who you are, where we come from, your friends, family, and the world around you. Yes, we may all come from different backgrounds, but our unique differences should not divide us. It may seem that way, but in actuality our differences are what unite us.

Friends are as sweet as family.

Winnie the Pooh: A Winnie the Pooh Thanksgiving

In this tiggerific Thanksgiving special, Rabbit is determined to organize the perfect traditional thanksgiving feast. Unfortunately, “perfection” is far out of his reach. I know—oh bother! But don’t worry, all you Eeyores out there; a happy ending awaits you! That silly old bear, Winnie the Pooh teaches everyone that Thanksgiving isn’t about turkey and pumpkins, but about being there for your friends. In honor of Rabbit, he and the rest of the gang band together to help reorganize the party at the Hundred Acre Wood. At the conclusion of this episode, Rabbit is filled with gratitude for the time his friends put in to make this party happen, proving that a little consideration and a little thought for others makes all the difference.
