Selfless Wind Chimes

Ring in the holidays with this DIY Christmas Wind Chime. It will help your family feel cheer the whole season long as it rings out with each act of service in the home.

Materials

Colored paper, cut in strips

Markers, crayons, pens, and/or colored pencils

A hole punch

Jingle bells, small cow bells, or other chiming items (one for each member of the family)

String or ribbons

Directions

Give each member of the family a strip of paper and a chime. If you have a variety of chimes, let everyone choose their own chime.

Ask everyone to write on the strip of paper something that they can do to selflessly serve the family—helping with chores, smiling in the mornings, or playing kindly together are some simple examples for the children.

Punch a hole in the strip of paper, and invite family members to decorate the paper if they’d like.

Cut varying lengths of string, one for each family member.

Tie each person’s chime to his or her piece of string, then tie the strips of paper higher up on the same piece of string.

Tie the chimes together onto a piece of ribbon, the family wreath (if you have one), or some other decoration. Take advantage of the varying lengths of string to make some chimes higher and some lower.

Hang the family chimes in a common area, like the kitchen or family room.

Every time someone notices somebody else doing one of the services listed on the slips of paper on the chimes this Christmas season, he or she should ring the chimes —or at least make sure to say thank you. Hopefully your Christmas chimes will be ringing all season long!
