Now that Thanksgiving has passed, it’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas. The holiday season means colder weather, holiday parties, and cozy nights with family, so here are some holiday drinks to make the whole family feel festive!
Tea
I drink a lot of tea no matter what time of year it is; I drink at least one cup of hot tea a day during the summer, so I get really excited when colder weather starts coming and holiday teas are on the shelves.
Several big tea brands have options available for holiday flavors. Celestial Seasonings makes lot. I love their Sweet Harvest Pumpkin flavor, if you’re still feeling like you’re not quite ready for the end of fall (which won’t technically come until December 21st anyway). However, if you want to try a Celestial Seasonings tea, I would not recommend the sugar cookie flavor. If you’re in the mood for some sugar cookies, you’d be better off baking or buying some.
This year I’m really excited to try a few different flavors of holiday tea from The Republic of Tea. This brand is usually a little more expensive than the others because the teas come in fancy tins, but I managed to find a set of three mini tins that all come together (I found it at Whole Foods).
The three flavors are cinnamon vanilla (Dream by the Fire); cinnamon, clove, spiced black tea (Comfort and Joy); and peppermint, vanilla, cocoa (Peppermint Bark). The great thing about The Republic of Tea is that most of these teas are made with caffeine-free rooibos, so you can give them to children without fear of over-caffeination.
Hot Chocolate
My sister (the same sister who started the tradition of mashed potato art) has, in the last decade, upgraded her kitchen skills to a wide array of Starbucks-worthy drinks. I’m going to see if I can trick her into making some of these for me while I bake this Christmas.
Nutella Hot Chocolate
As a recent graduate, I have made my fair share of Nutella concoctions, but Nutella hot chocolate looks pretty amazing!
Ultra Rich Hot Chocolate
For the ultimate chocolate lover, this ultra rich hot chocolate might just be the perfect holiday drink.
Mexican Hot Chocolate
If you’re looking for a drink with a little zip, Mexican hot chocolate is the perfect solution.
Peanut Butter Cup Hot Chocolate
Lovers of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups will also love this creamy peanut butter hot chocolate.
Another great way to mix up your hot chocolate is to try one of the many flavors available in a grocery store. I’ve found white chocolate, raspberry, and even graham cracker flavored. Also, back in the days of middle school Christmas parties, my friends and I used to stir our hot chocolate together with candy canes which gives it a nice, pepperminty taste.
Eggnog
I actually didn’t like eggnog until some time during my college years; now I kind of regret the years that I didn’t spend drinking it.
Peppermint Eggnog
Peppermint can make any drink feel extra festive, so why not try peppermint eggnog?
Classic Holiday Eggnog
Celebrators looking for the classic version of eggnog can look no further than this recipe from Circle of Moms.
Cider
Ciders are an especially great holiday drink for kids because not only is cider caffeine free, but most kids will go for just about anything apple flavored.
Caramel Apple Cider
One of the best variations of apple cider is to add caramel, and here’s a great recipe for how to do it!
Spiced Apple Cider
Another classic way to make apple cider is to spice it. This has the added bonus of smelling just like Christmas!
Spiced Cranberry Cider
Because apples have been in season for a while, I’m sure some people are getting a little tired of them. This one has cranberry to make it extra festive!
Punch
Sometimes hot drinks are just too much while you’re wearing holiday sweaters and snuggling by the fire. Here are a few great options for cooler drinks (as well as one more hot one that just looked so good that I had to add it to the list)!
Apple Ginger Sparklers
These sparklers would be a nice complement to all of the gingerbread that’ll be made this holiday season.
Peppermint-Eggnog Punch
The ginger ale in this delicious punch comes across like a Christmas twist on a root beer float.
Hot Cinnamon Cranberry Punch
The cinnamon flavor and cranberry color make this punch extra festive!
Whether you like a classic cup of tea or you’re up for a new twist on an old holiday favorite, these drink options will bring festive flavors to the whole family!
