Now that Christmas is upon us, it’s time to get in the mood for some Christmas magic. So go ahead and pick one, huddle around the television with your family on Christmas Eve, and prepare yourself for a night of smiles and laughter!
Miracle on 34th Street
One of my personal favorites, Miracle on 34th Street is a timeless film that fosters the idea of faith and belief. The characters are so lovable and the storyline so captivating, I can only say, without giving away too much, that this heartwarming classic is one that you must tune in on Christmas!
The Nightmare Before Christmas
In this classic animated feature, Jack Skellington is the Pumpkin King of Halloweentown. Upon discovering Christmas, he decides to do something a little different . . . but will he succeed? This movie is a clever classic, but parents should keep in mind that there are some dark and frightening moments, which can be overwhelming for some toddlers. That said, the Tom Burton’s masterpiece is a must-see if it is your family’s cup of tea.
The Polar Express
This movie is an exciting adventure and tells a wonderful message. Suitable for all ages, it embodies the true spirit of Christmas. So hop on board The Polar Express and enjoy!
The Muppet Christmas Carol
This musical adaptation of the novel by Charles Dickens features the famous writer himself (as played by Gonzo) alongside the adorable muppets and a wicked old miser on his road to redemption. This cute, down-to-earth film can make for an excellent introduction for children to the work of Dickens. We recommend the original novel, A Christmas Carol, as well.
Elf
This hilarious film sends a message of good cheer and charity, and is a classic Christmas movie for many families.
It’s a Wonderful Life
This sweet story deals with the most important Christmas theme of all: family. It has inspired hundreds and will continue to inspire us all for generations to come. That being said, the heavier themes explored in the story may not be suitable for younger audiences.
Home Alone
A ridiculous, fun-spirited, slapstick film, Home Alone is one of the most entertaining Christmas movies made, and will definitely fill the night with laughter!
Shrek the Halls (Short film)
Who doesn’t like Shrek? This short film (approx. thirty minutes) can make for a night of light-hearted family fun. The cover which claims that this film is “an instant holiday classic” undoubtedly holds some truth to its promise.
White Christmas
If your family has a predilection for music, then this movie is for you! A romantic classic, White Christmas uses powerful songs to bolster its storyline.
The Santa Clause 1, 2, & 3
Up for some serious movie-watching on Christmas Day? This Disney movie follows Scott (Tim Allen) and his son, Charlie’s journey as the former takes up the role of “Santa Clause” (note, however, that the original Santa’s demise may upset children). This touching story of a man and his family will make for a few hours well-spent.
While You Were Sleeping
A romantic comedy, the movie tell the story of two people who come together under the most hilarious (and peculiar) of circumstances. Celebrate the holiday with a dose of love and lots and lots of laughs! Perfect for teens and adults.
While each and every one of the movies mentioned above would be great additions to your holiday, always keep in mind the age group present. With that said, grab a bowl of popcorn and have yourself a Merry Christmas!
