Unusual Apple Recipes

As of last Tuesday, fall is officially here. Naturally, now that summer is over, apple season is upon us. Classic apple pie is always an amazing dessert option, but if you’re feeling creative here are some fun twists on apple recipes.
 

Apple Pie Baked in the Apple

This twist on an old favorite from Domestic Dilletante (https://domesticdilettante.com/2012/01/11/applepie/) is fun to make and looks really impressive when it’s finished. The author recommends using a spoon or a melon baller to scoop out the inside of the apple, but I was able to save the insides of all of the apples by using the curved end of a grapefruit knife to make the initial cuts.
 

Salted Caramel Apple Pie Bars

These bars from Sally’s Baking Addiction (https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/2014/07/03/salted-caramel-apple-pie-bars/ ) are indeed addicting! The recipe for the caramel is linked to in the body of the apple pie bars recipe, so don’t forget to look at both ingredient lists. Bonus: if you turn out to be really good at scooping out apples when you gave the previous recipe a try, you should have plenty left for this recipe.
